What the name "VIA" Stands For

  1. The first followers of Jesus were not called Christians. They were known to be members of a Jewish sect called, "the Way" (Acts 9:2). As followers (disciples) of Jesus, we believe one of the best ways to know how to follow Jesus is to look at the lives of those who first followed Him.
  2. The main trade route through Israel connecting the known world was called the "Via Maris" (the way of the sea). God continually set His people on the crossroads of contemporary cultures, and called them to be salt and light to the world. The Silicon Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area is our modern-day "Via Maris," and we rejoice in the opportunity and responsibility of being light and salt to this world.
  3. Jesus said, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life" (John 14:6).
  4. The word "via" in American English has two definitions.
    1. "through the medium or agency of", "by means of", as in "...via airmail".

      via sign

We desire to be faithful communicators of Jesus' message to the world; carriers of the Message.

    2. "by way of", "through".

We are not the end, but merely conduits of Life and Truth to the world.

  5. We believe life is a journey, and the goal of those who follow Jesus is not a destination, but rather faithfulness to the lessons learned along the way.
